The Most Epic School Trip of My Life

As the summer term draws to a close we thought we would share what our visitors enjoyed most about their school trip to Magdalen this year. Over the course of an academic year around 5000 young people come to us and everyone finds something different to enjoy. Here, in no particular order, are some of the highlights you've told us about.

The welcome

Being away from home for the first time can be a challenge so it’s lovely to hear that our visitors quickly settle in and appreciate the relaxed and beautiful surroundings of Magdalen Farm.

"As soon as I walked in it felt like home."

"The beds were so comfy that I went to sleep immediately!"

"I came thinking that I was going to miss my family so much but when I arrived you made our trip so fun and educational that I didn’t want to leave!"

The food!

Food is something we pride ourselves on at Magdalen and it’s clearly something our visitors enjoy. Whether it’s harvesting vegetables, trying something for the first time, making smoothies with our smoothie bike or making a pizza in our pizza oven, food at Magdalen is a special part of the experience, as our visitors will testify.

"It was honestly the best food ever (even better than my dad’s)."

"Mary, I think you are an amazing cook and I loved the desserts you made!"

Being outdoors

There are so many outdoor adventures to have on the farm. From orienteering and singing songs around the campfire to exploring the woods and making dens, the farm has something for everyone.

"My favourite part was when we went orienteering because we got to learn about the environment and go off on our own."

"My most challenging activity was Survival in the Wild because we had to make a shelter and make it waterproof!"

The animals

Magdalen is a working organic farm and there are lots of animals for our visitors to get to know. With sheep, chickens, goats, pigs and Jenny the horse there is always plenty to do. Our visitors love looking after the animals, feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs, and feeding the goats and pigs.

"The one pig I loved the most was Arthur because he is grumpy. I kept calling him dad."

"My favourite thing was feeding all the animals."

So to sum up…

"The food was delicious, the beds were comfy and, best of all, we got so muddy!"

"I had the time of my life at Magdalen and I will never forget it."

Thanks to the children of Bathwick St Mary Primary, St John's Primary Tiverton and Salisbury Cathedral School for their lovely feedback. Hope to see you all back at Magdalen again soon!
