Back at the start of lockdown, we pledged to grow and donate 1 tonne of food to local food banks.
We should have been more ambitious!
We have smashed that original target, and have now donated over one and a half tonnes of organic meat, vegetables and eggs, helping local food banks and community kitchens to keep food on the tables of some of our region's families most severely affected by coronavirus. We hope to reach the 2 tonnes mark in October.
We have supplied food banks in Chard, Crewkerne, Yeovil, Bridport and Dorchester.
Normally food banks don’t take fresh produce as it may sit around too long before it is distributed, but with demand for food now so high, fresh produce is gone in a flash. This is a sure indication of how important the project is.
Producing and donating food carries a considerable cost, and all this has only been possible through the generous support of:
Our aim now is to keep helping, keep growing and providing for as long as we can, and for as long there is a need.
