Who's who at Magdalen

We thought you would like to know abit about our fabulous team here at Magdalen Farm

Giles Aspinall – Chief Executive (Senior Manager). I really wanted to be an astronaut, but this is a close second best. After more than 10 years at Magdalen, I still love it. You may find me cosy in the office one minute, or up to my ears in mud the next, but never very far from the kettle.

Learning & Wellbeing team

Rebecca King – Learning and Wellbeing Team Manager (Senior Manager) – I have been at the farm since 2010 and it’s my dream job: making a positive difference to people’s lives through nature and animals.  I manage the team of front-line staff who are interacting with our customers, volunteers, looking after the animals and growing vegetables.  I do some teaching, care farming, animal care, liaising with funders and a whole host of other activities which provides plenty of variety, problem-solving and creativity.
Dan Ashby – Environmental Education Officer -  I joined the Magdalen team in 2015. My role involves planning and running educational and care farming visits, using all of the different areas on our beautiful farm. I have a passion for wildlife and the outdoors and love sharing that with all of the people who visit. I am also a Level 3 qualified Forest School Leader, working on outreach projects in some of our local schools.
Rose O’Hagan – Environmental Education Officer- I have an agricultural background and I’ve been part of Magdalen since April 2017 now. I love inspiring others to enjoy their natural environment as much as I do. During your stay I will lead exciting and educational activities for your group and share knowledge of the beautiful flora and fauna around us. I also lead forest school sessions to enable young people to build their confidence and improve their development through the outdoor environment.
Sian Cann – Environmental Education Officer – I joined the Learning and Wellbeing team at Magdalen at the beginning of 2020. I come from a strong environmental education background, having lived and worked on Lundy Island for the past three years as Warden and developing the education department there, teaching groups about the protected wildlife and sustainable projects. I am delighted to be able to use my experiences to help bring the farm to life for everyone who comes to visit this beautiful and special place!
Linzie Freeth- Organic Kitchen Gardener and Environmental Education Officer -  no day is ever the same! One minute I could be sowing seeds with volunteers and the next rounding up escaped piglets with a group of children. It is an amazing role that I have been lucky enough to be in for over 12 years and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Kerry Froud- Environmental education and countryside ranger - I have been working at Magdalen since the start of 2020 and I love how diverse my role is.  I run environmental education sessions, take care of all of our animals and carry out maintenance and conservation work on the farm.

Hospitality Team

Kathy Dorse – Centre Manager (Senior Manager)– I have been at Magdalen since 2001, starting in housekeeping and kitchen. Gradual promotion has led to my current position as Centre Manager and a Senior manager. My job is to ensure all guests have a safe and comfortable stay. I have seen the Charity evolve, always changing to ethically improve and higher standards for all visitors.
Lisa Orchard –  Housekeeping – I am from Sydney Australia, and have enjoyed living and working in the UK for almost 17 years now. I started at Magdalen Farm as a volunteer when I moved to the area and became a member of staff in October, 2019 . I'm finding my work very rewarding as I love to keep all of the Magdalen Farm spaces clean and tidy for visitors to completely relax.

Mary McWilliam & Daniel De Beers – Kitchen Staff – we here to cook fantastic meals to those staying over at Magdalen – ask us about any special dietary requirements or requests.
Paul Smith – Caretaker – I live on-site at Magdalen and I am involved in housekeeping and take care of a variety of jobs such as mowing the grassed areas, looking after the boiler to keep you warm and general maintenance.
Jess Foreman – Housekeeping – here to keep the Centre and Farmhouse clean and tidy.

Office Team

Lisa Herbert – Business Manager (Senior Manager) – I have been at Magdalen since May 2008 and love every day as it is so different.  I am the first person to contact about a visit to the farm and will check availability for you, give you details of rates and make sure you have all the information you need to have a great time here.
Helen Herrod – Accounts Clerk – it’s my job to pay the bills and arrange payments from our clients.  I live on a dairy farm with my family and have been at Magdalen since January 2009.
