Self-catering group breaks

If you are looking for self-catering group accommodation in the countryside, you’ll find much to enjoy at Magdalen Farm on the Somerset/Dorset border. Ideal for groups of families and friends, we’re a working organic farm that can sleep from 10 to 36 in a tranquil rural setting with great character both inside and out. What’s more, we’re just 15 minutes away from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast.

A choice of accommodation

The Magdalen Farmhouse

We have two options, depending on your group’s size. Our Courtyard Centre can accommodate up to 36 (minimum booking for 20) or the recently renovated Magdalen Farmhouse can accommodate up to 17 (minimum booking for 10).

The Courtyard Centre: Converted from old farm buildings around a landscaped courtyard our centre provides 8 bedrooms offering a variety of adult-sized bunk beds with a commercial sized kitchen. Eat and relax in the large open plan dining room and additional function room. The centre leads directly to an outside courtyard with an outside cob oven - ideal for making pizzas!

The Farmhouse: Rebuilt in the 1890’s as the main residence for the farm and newly renovated for 2018, Magdalen Farmhouse retains many character features including a large fully equipped farmhouse kitchen, wood burner in the lounge large, 6 bedrooms and extensive gardens outside. The house is centrally heated with wood available for the fires at a small charge.

Please note: we are unable to mix bookings across our accommodation. Depending on the size of your group, please choose the Courtyard Centre or Farmhouse.

Our facilities

The kitchen at Magdalen Farm

The Courtyard Centre has a fully equipped commercial kitchen with 8 burner gas hob and 2 large ovens. There’s also a commercial dishwasher and hot water urn. The Farmhouse is very well equipped too with a character Rayburn oven in the kitchen.

Both buildings are centrally heated to provide a warm environment with wood fires in The Farmhouse sitting room and kitchen via the Rayburn. Open fires in designated areas in the grounds are welcome too. Magdalen has purpose built wheelchair friendly paths to access the many attractive areas in the farm grounds. There are 2 large designated parking areas with disabled parking close to the main centre.

Plenty to do nearby

Nearby Lyme Regis

The farm is ideally located for touring the south west with access to many footpaths and cycle routes across the stunning countryside. Guests are welcome to wander around our farm and visit our farm animals and kitchen gardens.

The coastal town of Lyme Regis is a 15 minute drive from the farm and opens out onto the dramatic Jurassic Coast with fossil hunting at Charmouth a short drive further.

Within a short distance of the farm is the fabulous house, gardens and grounds of Forde Abbey. The local market towns of Chard, Crewkerne, Beaminster and Bridport are all within a short driving distance all with good facilities including supermarkets, leisure facilities and the unique West Country Farmers Markets.
